A loving mother, a loyal friend, Milky and her puppies were a source of daily joy for most of the residents in the area. They fed her on regular basis, brought their children to play with her, and considered her to be a dog everyone in the area could get to love and enjoy.
Milky's world was almost perfect, until one person complained. For a reason we might never know, one woman calling the municipality. Maybe she said Milky was dangerous, maybe she was diseased, or maybe the woman just wanted to take revenge against the people that cared for Milky. Whatever the reason, she called the Municipality and convinced them to take her away.
Even though Milky hadn't ever threatened anyone, the Municipality still sent people to deal with the 'problem'. Instead of just trying to speak to the local people to understand the situation, instead of seeing if someone would take Milky into their home, instead of calling Animals Lebanon, a group of men went to the site with sticks and clubs. They had already made up their mind that they were going to kill Milky and her puppies.
'They beat them up constantly on their head, puppies and mother. The men held the dogs down with their feet while they beat them. Into the truck they were thrown as if they were a piece of meat,' said Yuliyana, one of the local people who witnessed this attack. She said it looked like they are in a 'hunting fiesta'.
Sadly the two puppies were killed and tossed into the truck, while Milky, bloody and confused, managed to escape.
Sickeningly, these same men came back the next morning to get Milky. Killing the puppies wasn't enough for them, they needed to 'finish the job.' Luckily, the neighbors saw them when they returned and called Animals Lebanon.
Safa, one of the founders of Animals Lebanon, arrived there to find Milky hiding in the bushes, still bleeding from the wounds inflicted the day before. Yuliyana approached Milky to reassure her and gain the necessary trust to be able to put a leash on her and get into the car. Milky tiredly laid her head on Safa's lap the entire way to the vet.
As soon as the vet saw her he did a series of X-rays. She thankfully did not have internal bleeding, but it took a lot of work to patch up all the cuts and scrapes covering her body. Milky is now healing and showed great improvements since we got her.

Animals Lebanon is following this up with the Municipality. We want to make sure this never happens again and have stated that we will assist with animals in their area, but that these actions are simply not acceptable.
