A joint operation between the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Environment and Animals Lebanon succeeded in confiscating an illegally held hyena.
The hyena, now named May, was kept by a small pet shop in the city of Saida in southern Lebanon.
Animals Lebanon was notified about the small zoo in April 2010, and successfully worked with the owner to close down the zoo and send the animals to sanctuaries.
On 4 March, at the Radisson hotel, Animals Lebanon held a press conference to explain the importance of having national legislation for animal welfare – and the important work being done to make sure these laws are drafted and enacted.
